4 min
deactivating a discount rule in roster is a quick and effective way to ensure that all associated discount codes within the rule are also deactivated this guide will walk you through the steps for deactivating a discount rule, including considerations for shopify linked and manual discount rules video walkthrough video transcript this is a transcript from the loom video walkthrough 0 00 hey there, this is jeff at roster in this video, we're going to look at how to deactivate an entire discount rule, which will deactivate all of the discount codes inside of that rule 0 12 so, let's go ahead and come over to the left navigation and click on more, and then click on discounts and that'll bring up the list of discount rules 0 20 and from here, you want to click on the discount rule that you want to deactivate so, for me, i'm going to click on this friends and family 0 27 let's assume for some reason that, um, i've stopped offering this friends and family discount to my ambassadors what i would want to do is go remove it from the program 0 37 in fact, i can actually do that with you real quick come over to the referrals tab where i have that set up is the shareable code 0 45 and i'm going to click remove and that will remove the discount rule from the program, but it won't deactivate the code 0 53 so, if i click back on more and then come to discounts here, you can see that the discount rule itself is still active what i'm going to do is come to the edit discount rule, and i'm going to come to the end on, and i will just select today 1 13 select now, and hit save okay, so what i did effectively is end date the discount rule as of right now 1 24 now, which then had a recursive effect of ending or expiring all of the individual codes within that discount rule this happens to be a shopify linked discount rule, so if i click on details and then click view and shopify, it will bring me over to the shopify discount rule 1 48 that rule, and you can see that it was endated as of right now so, these codes are still all in here, but because the top level discount code itself has been expired or ended, then all of the codes are effectively deactivated 2 05 so, um, and if you are working with a discount rule that is not a shopify, i linked discount code, then what you would want to do is go to your e commerce platform, or wherever those codes are, and you wanna make sure you end them there as well, or expire them, or deactivate them, whatever the action 2 25 happens to be, so that the codes can't work on your platform the net result of doing this in roster is that any time an order comes in that has one of these codes in it, because the code is now expired in roster and won't try to give attribution to the ambassador who the code was assigned to 2 43 hopefully this helps if you have any specific questions, or want to talk about anything else, always let us know in the meantime, have a great day 2 51 thank you step by step instructions remove the discount rule from the program, campaign, or milestone (optional) if you are fully deactivating a discount rule, it's important to remember to remove it from any active programs, campaigns, or milestones to which it might be attached so that it doesn't appear for ambassadors for example, to remove a shareable discount rule from a program navigate to the program's settings click on the referrals tab locate the shareable discount code section where the discount rule is assigned click remove to disassociate the discount rule from the program this step prevents the rule from being used in the program but does not deactivate the codes deactivate the discount rule in roster navigate to more > discounts in the left hand navigation menu select the discount rule you want to deactivate (e g , friends and family discount ) click edit discount rule set the end date of the discount rule to the current date and time click save to deactivate the discount rule this action expires all individual codes within the discount rule verify deactivation in shopify (if applicable) for shopify linked discount rules, click details > view in shopify within roster confirm that the discount rule has been marked as expired in your shopify admin individual codes may still appear in shopify but will no longer function because the top level discount rule is expired deactivate discount codes in external systems (if applicable) for discount rules that are not linked to shopify or any other platform log in to your e commerce platform or external system locate the discount code or codes and ensure they are marked as expired, deactivated, or removed verify that the codes associated with the rule are no longer functional in your system understand the impact of deactivating a discount rule deactivating a discount rule in roster ensures that orders using expired codes are not attributed to ambassadors ambassadors cannot use or share inactive codes need help?
