Add a BXGY code to smart links
5 min
using a buy one, get one (bogo) or buy x, get y discount code in roster allows shopify brands to offer special promotions through ambassador smart links although roster does not natively support these types of discount rules, you can still integrate them into your ambassador smart links by appending specific codes to the destination url this guide will walk you through the process of setting up bogo or buy x, get y discount codes within roster video walkthrough video transcript this is a transcript from the loom video walkthrough \[00 00] hey, this is jeff at roster in this video, i'm going to show how shopify brands can use a buy one, get one, or buy x, get y, discount code, with their smart links \[00 12] although roster doesn't currently have native support for adding a buy one, get one discount rule, there's a way that you can add a buy one get one discount code to your ambassador smart links so that when their customers make a purchase, they can be eligible for that, um, that offer \[00 32] so, i'm going to show you how to set that up so, first of all, we're going to come into one of the programs where i have smart links already enabled \[00 40] and you can see here that there's no customer discount this is going to use a little bit of a hack \[00 46] so, i'm not going to come into the customer discount section because we don't have the buy y buy x get y discount for shopify supported natively this time \[00 57] so, what you're going to do is you're going to be appending something to the destination url so, let's jump over to shopify \[01 05] and here you can see in my store i have set up a buy x get y discount one code right here \[01 14] and i've given it a name, um, doesn't really matter what it's called i just gave it a kind of a random name \[01 21] but you're going to give it just a single name and this is going to be the code that every one of your ambassadors customers apply to their shopping cart \[01 29] and then here i've added a collection that they get to shop from and a collection where they get to redeem something free \[01 36] but you would set this up however it made sense for your company and then you probably want to be able to check \[01 42] you want to check the limit to one use per customer unless you want the same customer to be able to get that discount more than once \[01 51] okay, once you create it shopify will give you this little box at the top that says get shareable link and if you open that up, it's given \[02 00] and you a choice right here to have customers get directed to the collection page of the, that's the collection where you added the added that i added here from where they get a shot from \[02 13] uh, or you can have it just redirect to the home page so just for demonstration purposes, i'll keep it to the collection page \[02 19] and then i'm simply just going to copy this and i'll point out that this is just just my store url and then shopify has this convention that if you add slash discount and then one of the discount code in your store, you will automatically apply that code to the customer's cart \[02 38] and then here you can see it's redirecting to that collection page okay, so i've copied that to the clipboard so i'm going to close that and then i'll come back into roster and i'm just \[02 48] i'm going to clear out this whole destination url field and paste in what i copied from the clipboard and then that's it \[02 57] i'm just going to leave that as is i'm going to keep my url parameters i'm going to keep the link appearance set to shortlink \[03 04] so we'll hide all of those ugly url characters and i'm going to hit save um, so it'll take a a few moments for that to save \[03 15] but in the meantime, notice that this, this particular program is also set up to have a shareable discount code so ambassadors in my pro athletes program, they have a smart link, which currently will apply, uh, by x get y discount code \[03 30] and they also have a shareable discount code so they could choose to use either you could temporarily deactivate these, um, or if you're not using shareable codes, then you have nothing to worry about \[03 43] so, that's the situation there so now let's go into the contacts i'll look up one of my contacts and grab their smart link \[03 55] and then, i'm gonna come over to here and paste that in and what happened behind the scenes is it went to that url that had the discount in it, and it applied the discount code to my cart, and then it redirected me to where it said the discount code would redirect me to, which is to this collections \[04 15] page and then here's all of the roster specific things here's the roster tracking code and the utm parameters that we set up in our smart link \[04 24] so let's go ahead and try this out i'm gonna add the berryboost energy to my cart, and then i'm gonna add the multivitamin gummy to my cart, and view my cart \[04 38] and here we go i can see that the discount code was applied to my cart, and as a result, the berryboost energy is, was marked off or free \[04 48] so that's how i set up my discount code so now i can just go ahead and proceed to the checkout, and my customer would get the buy one, get one offer that i put into the ambassador's links \[05 03] there are a couple drawbacks to this approach, or, i should say, limitations that you should be aware of so if i log in here as the em ambassador, it's not going to mention anything about the buy x, get y here on their referral link \[05 23] if this was like a shareable code, there would be a little mention here of the discount they get so that is just a limitation you need to be aware of \[05 32] so you would need to communicate that through, like, the community fee measure, or some messaging, that their link is currently providing this specific discount \[05 43] so, be sure to do that communication and if buy x snap y, type coupon is something that you use a lot of or see yourself using more with your ambassador program \[05 54] uh, shoot us a an email, let us know we haven't had a lot of interest in brands using the net for their ambassador program \[06 02] but if that's something that you see a big use case for having a lot of success on, then we definitely want to know \[06 09] so, shoot us an email and if you have any questions setting this up, let us know alright, thanks step by step instructions set up a discount code in shopify navigate to your shopify store and set up a buy x, get y discount code assign a name to the discount code, which will be applied by all ambassadors' customers define the collections for shopping and redemption according to your company's needs optionally, set the limit to one use per customer, unless multiple uses are desired after creating the discount, click on get shareable link to access the link options choose to direct customers to either the collection page or the home page copy the provided url, which includes your store url and the /discount/ path followed by the discount code append the discount code to the ambassador smart link go to the roster program where smart links are enabled clear the existing destination url field in the smart link setup paste the copied url from shopify into the destination url field in roster maintain the url parameters and set the link appearance to shortlink click save to apply the changes test the smart link navigate to the contacts section and select a contact who is in the program where the smart link was updated copy their referral link open a new
