Configure UTM settings

setting up default brand level utm parameters in roster is a useful way to integrate your ambassadors' referral link status with analytics platforms like google analytics with these utm parameters, you can better track the word of mouth behaviors of your ambassadors, seeing where link clicks originate and how they translate into purchases here's how to configure your brand level utm parameters, which can then be applied to your campaigns and referral links video walkthrough video transcript this is a transcript from the loom video walkthrough \[00 00] hey, this is jeff at roster in this video, i want to walk you through how you can set up some default brand level utm parameters, which can then be used in your campaigns and in your referral links \[00 11] this helps to tie in your google analytics or whatever analytics platform you're using so that you can further track the word of mouth behaviors that your ambassadors are taking and see where the link clicks are coming from and how those clicks are translating to purchases \[00 28] okay, so let's jump in to get to the utm settings, we're going to come down to the bottom and click on your brand logo and then click on brand settings in the fly out menu \[00 37] when the brand settings modal opens up, click on the utm settings in the left navigation uhm, not going to lie, this isn't one of my most favorite designed pages, but, uh, it is what it is \[00 49] so there's a couple things going on here uhm, there's a couple previews the first preview is showing what the campaign links would look like with utm parameters applied \[01 00] and campaign links are links that, uh, it's a referral link that you can add to a specific campaign that you want your ambassadors to share as part of that campaign \[01 09] and within the campaign itself, there's an option to apply the utm parameters and if selected, then it will apply these three utm parameters and the values that you put in these boxes right here under the campaign links column \[01 25] so by default, the utm source is set to ambassador full name dash and then ambassador id this is a unique id, and then the medium, the size \[01 36] set to ambassador, the phrase ambassador, and then the campaign is set to the campaign brief title this is the internal title, uhm, of the campaign, not the external title that the ambassador sees \[01 51] and then, uhm, on this right hand side, we see that these are the utm parameters that will be applied to the referral link \[01 59] and at this point in time, there's two different types of referral links in roster, there's what we call our legacy referral links, and these are referral links at the brand level, which are, uh, defined on this referral settings tab below the utm settings tab \[02 14] and then we have our smart links, which are actually configured at the program level and smart links also have utm parameters set \[02 24] and when you enable smart links for a program, by default, it will grab the values that you have here in your referral link utm parameters, it will populate those parameters inside of your smart link settings at the program level \[02 38] so in other words, these basically just act as defaults for when setting up smart links for a program so if you're using smart links, you'll get those down at the program level \[02 48] if you're using our legacy referral links, then this is the page that will enable them and you'll notice here on the right of the utm, the referral link utm parameters, there's this little label \[03 01] and right now it says off uhm, this is not something you can click on, this is just a little label indicating the current status \[03 08] in order to enable referral links, or excuse me, utm parameters at the referral link level, you would go over to the referral settings, which i will cover in a separate video and help article \[03 21] so for the time being, just know that these are the referral settings that you can set at the, uh, brand level, or excuse me, these are the utm settings that you can set at the brand level, which act as the defaults for both links \[03 36] campaign link utm parameters and referral link utm parameters, um, and just to show you if, um, might help actually to go into a campaign and to see a legacy referral link \[03 48] so let's come over to campaigns and we'll open up the, come into edit mode for this influencer campaign and if i come to the campaign brief section, let's see here, there it is \[04 05] okay, so i have a link that i've added that i want ambassadors to share and right now i haven't clicked this include utm parameters checkbox, but if i click that, then you can see in the preview below the link to share that it appended the utm parameters that i have configured \[04 24] inside of the, uhm, utm settings page so that's what that looks like and we'll see if we can find, uhm, well, i can't actually show the referral settings \[04 37] i want to cover that in a separate video so, if you want to see what the referral utm parameters look like, then take a look at the referral settings article and video should be located right below the utm settings \[04 48] article in the brand portal help docs okay, if you have any questions, shoot us an email at support gitroster com in the meantime, have a great day \[04 57] thanks step by step instructions
