Roster offers two levels of social listening to help brands track and organize ambassador and community content. Both bring social posts into your Roster portal, but they differ in **who** the content comes from and **which platforms** are supported.

This guide breaks down the differences so you can understand what's included with your subscription and when you might want to upgrade.

Social listening requires your brand's Facebook and Instagram accounts to be connected in Roster. If you haven't done this yet, start with [Connect Facebook & Instagram](https://docs.getroster.com/connect-facebook-and-instagram).

## Social Listening (Included in All Subscriptions)

Social Listening is available on **all Roster plans** and pulls in content from ambassadors and creators already inside your account.

### What it does

With Social Listening, Roster automatically captures posts from:

- Ambassadors and creators who are contacts in your Roster portal
- Contacts who have connected their social accounts to Roster

This lets you track posts tied directly to your programs, campaigns, and actions.

### Supported platforms and content types

**Always available** (from contacts who tag your brand):

- Instagram Feed Posts
- Instagram Reels
- TikTok videos

**Available when the ambassador has connected their social account** and the content is tied to an Action or Campaign:

- Instagram Stories
- Facebook posts and reels
- X (Twitter) posts

:::hint{type="info"}
**Platform-specific notes:**

- **Instagram Stories** are captured but do not appear in the Social Feed tab. You can view them on the contact's profile page, campaign pages, and action overview.
- **Facebook posts** are only captured when the ambassador @mentions your brand's Facebook page **at the time they publish**. Editing a post to add the @mention after publishing does not trigger a notification to Roster.
- **X (Twitter) posts** are only pulled in when the ambassador clicks the "Refresh" link within the campaign or action requirements, due to changes in the X API.
:::

### Best for

- Tracking ambassador deliverables
- Monitoring campaign and action participation
- Collecting content from creators already in your community

## Full Social Listening (Premium Add-on)

Full Social Listening expands your reach by capturing content from people **outside of your Roster account** — even if they aren't in any of your programs.

### What it does

With Full Social Listening, Roster can pull in Instagram and TikTok posts from:

- People who are not contacts in your portal
- Creators outside of your ambassador programs
- Anyone with a public account who **@mentions your brand's handle**

This helps you discover organic UGC and identify potential new ambassadors to recruit.

### How to get it

Full Social Listening is available as a paid add-on. Contact your Customer Success Manager or email [support@getroster.com](mailto\:support@getroster.com) to learn more and enable it for your account.

### Platform limitations

Due to social network privacy APIs, Full Social Listening can only pull in content from non-contacts on **Instagram and TikTok**:

- Instagram Feed Posts
- Instagram Reels
- TikTok videos

Content types that **cannot** be captured from non-contacts:

- Instagram Stories
- Facebook posts
- X (Twitter) posts

### Best for

- Discovering organic brand mentions on Instagram
- Capturing UGC beyond your ambassador program
- Finding and recruiting new creators
- Running [Public Hashtag Campaigns](https://docs.getroster.com/public-hashtag-campaigns) to track specific hashtag + @mention combinations from anyone

## Where to find your social content

All captured social posts appear in the **Social Feed** tab in your Roster portal. From there you can:

- **Star** posts to save them as favorites
- **Archive** posts to remove them from the main feed
- **Download** content to your device (where supported)
- **Filter** by program, network, date range, or engagement level

For Full Social Listening content from non-contacts, filter by **No Program** to see organic mentions.

For a full walkthrough, see [Social Feed Overview](https://docs.getroster.com/social-feed-overview).

## Good to know

- **Instagram tagged post visibility:** Roster can only pull in posts that appear on your brand's Instagram "Tagged" tab. If your tag settings hide certain posts, Roster won't see them. See [Social Feed FAQs](https://docs.getroster.com/social-feed-faqs) for tips on optimizing your tag settings.
- **Historical posts:** When you first connect your Instagram account, Roster performs a historical sync of your tagged posts from the past 30 days.
- **Meta connections can expire:** If your Facebook/Instagram connection disconnects, you'll see a red banner in your account and receive an email with reconnect instructions. This is normal behavior across all third-party tools that connect to Meta. See [Social Profiles FAQs](https://docs.getroster.com/social-profiles-faqs) for more details.
