In this article, we’ll guide you through enabling referral commissions for your ambassador programs in Roster, ensuring you can reward ambassadors effectively for driving sales. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to set up referral commissions and verify their functionality.

## Step-by-step instructions

### Step 1: Navigate to program settings

1. Go to the **Programs** section in Roster.
2. Click on the **Settings** for the program where you want to enable referral commissions.

### Step 2: Open referral rewards settings

1. In the program settings, click on the **Referrals** tab.
2. Scroll down to the **Referral Rewards** section.
3. If this is your first time setting up referral commissions, click **Set Up Referral Commissions**. Otherwise, click **Edit**.

### Step 3: Configure referral commission settings

1. Choose the type of commission:
   - **Percentage of Sale**: Enter the percentage (e.g., 20%). This is calculated on the order subtotal (before taxes and shipping but after discounts).
   - **Fixed Amount**: Enter a fixed dollar amount to reward per referral.
   - **Tiers**: Set up tiered rewards. See [Set up referral tiers](docId\:Y37bwDKsIc0CWBr8OmfZW) for more details.
2. Select the **Approval Method**:
   - **Manual**: You manually approve each commission.
   - **Automatic**: Commissions are approved automatically after a specified period.
3. Enable or disable **Recurring Rewards**. See [Recurring order tracking guide](docId\:ZEUo_dm8fic3mnYF6cxvs) for more details.
4. Choose the **Payment Methods** for payouts (e.g., PayPal, Venmo).
5. Set the **Status** field to **Enable** to activate referral commissions.
6. Click **Save**.

### Step 4: Test referral commissions

1. Navigate to your **Contacts** list and locate an ambassador in the program for which referral commissions were just enabled.
2. Open their profile and go to the **Discounts and Links** section.
3. Copy their referral link and paste it into a new browser tab.
4. Complete a test purchase on your store.

### Step 5: Verify attribution and commission

1. Return to the Roster portal and go to **Reports > All Orders**.
2. Locate the test order and verify:
   - The order is attributed to the correct ambassador.
   - The attribution method is listed as **Referral Link**.
   - The correct commission amount is calculated and displayed in the **Referral Rewards** section.
3. Review the commission details by clicking **View Details** for debugging or troubleshooting if necessary.
4. Approve or reject the commission as part of your workflow.
