This article explains how to choose which referral programs use automated payments, how auto-enrollment works, and what happens when you enroll or unenroll a program.

## How Program Enrollment Works

Automated payments are enabled at the **program level**. You choose which referral programs should use automated payments, and ambassadors in those programs receive payments through the automated system. Programs not enrolled continue using your existing payment method (PayPal, external, etc.).

## Enroll a Program

1. Go to **Settings** > **Payment Settings**
2. Find the **Programs enrolled in automated payments** section
3. Click **Manage programs**
4. In the drawer that opens, toggle on the programs you want to enroll
5. Click **Save**

Once enrolled:

- Ambassadors in that program become eligible for automated payments
- Their approved commissions are included in the next payment batch
- They'll start receiving wallet setup reminders if they haven't set up their payment wallet yet
- The program appears in the Automated Payment Schedule drawer

## Auto-Enroll Future Programs

If you want new programs to automatically be enrolled in automated payments when they're created:

1. In **Payment Settings**, find the **Auto-enroll** setting
2. Toggle **Auto-enroll on**
3. Click **Save**

When auto-enroll is on:

- Any new program you create is automatically enrolled in automated payments
- Programs created by duplicating an existing enrolled program also inherit enrollment
- You can still manually unenroll any auto-enrolled program

**Note:** Auto-enroll only applies to programs created after the setting is turned on. It does not retroactively enroll existing programs.

## Unenroll a Program

1. Go to **Settings** > **Payment Settings**
2. Click **Manage programs**
3. Toggle off the program you want to unenroll
4. Click **Save**

When you unenroll a program:

- The program is removed from the currently scheduled payment batch
- Ambassadors in that program are no longer included in automated payments
- Any unpaid commissions remain in the system — they move back to the manual/external payment workflow
- Ambassadors in that program will not receive automated wallet setup reminders

## What Happens to Commissions

### When Enrolling a Program

All approved, unpaid commissions for ambassadors in that program become eligible for the next automated payment batch. Commissions that were already pending under manual/external payment workflows are now included in the automated system.

### When Unenrolling a Program

Unpaid commissions are not lost. They move back to the manual payment workflow and appear on the Unsent Payments tab under the appropriate non-automated section. You can still pay them via PayPal, external payments, or other methods.

## Commission Approval for Enrolled Programs

Programs enrolled in automated payments have a special behavior for commission approval:

- **Pending commissions are automatically approved** at the time of the payment batch if they haven't been manually approved or rejected
- This means you don't need to manually approve every commission — the system handles it at payment time
- If you want to exclude a commission, **manually reject it** before the payment date
- This auto-approval only applies to programs enrolled in automated payments

The Referral Commission settings and Payments page include a note about this behavior so you and your team are aware.

## How Many Programs Can I Enroll?

There's no limit. You can enroll all of your referral programs, or just a subset. Many brands start with one program to test the workflow, then enroll additional programs once they're comfortable.

## Viewing Enrolled Programs

You can see which programs are enrolled in several places:

- **Payment Settings** — Shows count and list of enrolled programs
- **Automated Payment Schedule drawer** — Lists enrolled programs for the upcoming batch
- **Program settings** — Individual program settings show whether automated payments is the active payment method

## Best Practices

- **Start with one program** to test the automated payment workflow before enrolling all programs
- **Use auto-enroll** if your brand consistently wants new programs on automated payments
- **Review enrolled programs** before each payment batch to ensure the right programs are included
- **Communicate to ambassadors** when you enroll their program, so they know to expect wallet setup prompts
